4 Things That Promote Bacteria in Your Bathroom

Bathrooms are meant to be a place where we can clean ourselves. However, there are items that are frequently missed and can even transfer bacteria to clean hands. Here is what you need to keep clean and how often it should be cleaned.

Hand Towels

Hand towels can trap bacteria and dirt from improperly washed hands. Since this item is frequently damp it provides optimal conditions for bacteria to grow and proliferate. You should wash hand towels 2-3 times a week.

Fabric Shower Curtains

If you have a fabric shower curtain it will gradually accumulate dirt, dust and bacteria. Most dirt particles come from drawing or closing the curtains with our hands. Other dust just settles overtime from regular use. Fabric shower curtains don’t often contain bacteria because they don’t absorb water easily. The shower curtain should be washed every 6 months.

Plastic Shower Curtains

Plastic shower curtains are exposed to a lot of dirt and bacteria. To prevent the growth of bacteria keep the shower curtain spread out and open to allow it to dry. You can’t wash shower curtains and they need to be replaced every 4 months or whenever they get mould.

Toilet Brush

It’s often hard to know if the toilet brush needs to be replaced. Ideally we should throw it out after 1 use. However it can be good for 2-3 uses. If you notice mould in the toilet brush holder, throw it out immediately. You can also use disposable one time use toilet brushes.
