Eco-Friendly Silver Cleaning With Baking Soda

Eco-Friendly Silver Cleaning With Baking Soda

Silver items become discoloured and tarnish overtime. Thus they need to be polished in order for them to return to their former brilliance. Many silver polishes are poisonous and often difficult to use. Luckily there is an easy eco-friendly silver cleaning technique you can use.

For silver polishing you will need a bucket, an aluminum plate, baking soda, a brush, a table spoon and  a measuring cup. Start by lightly scrubbing the silver items to loosen the dirt. Boil 1 quart or 4 cups of water and then pour it into the bucket. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix well.

Add the aluminum plate to the bucket. Place the silver items so that they are touching the plate and completely submerged by the water. If you need more water remember that for every 2 cups you need to add 1 tablespoon of baking soda.

Allow the items to sit for a minimum of 60 seconds. You can leave the silver items longer if necessary. Once the time is up remove the silver items and wipe them with a soft cloth. The silver should have its brilliant sheen back.
