Rug reweaving, hole and moth damage repair in Toronto
A hole in a rug tends to grow. Rug hole repair ranges from reweaving, which rebuilds the spot, to a simpler stitch that stops it spreading. Moth damage is mended too, and we start by checking what your rug needs.

Signs to look for
How holes start
Busy family rooms are hard on a rug.
Many holes begin as a worn spot where feet or furniture press on the rug every day. Others come from a chewing pet, or moths. A rug tear repair is often simpler.
- Worn-through spots
- Tears or splits
- Spots a pet has chewed
- A hole that’s getting bigger
A small hole is easier to deal with than a big one, so it’s worth a look early.

Our first look
What we check first
How your rug was made decides what’s possible.
A hand-knotted rug is built row by row, with knots tied onto a base of threads. Rug reweaving rebuilds that base and ties new knots into it, so it’s work for hand-made rugs.
We check how the rug was made, how big the damage is and how sound the rug is around it. With an antique or fragile rug, what’s possible depends on its condition, so we look first and then talk it through with you.
No work is suggested until we’ve seen the rug for ourselves.

Your options
Reweave, patch or secure
Three ways to tackle a hole.
Hole repair isn’t one single job. What suits yours depends on the rug, and on how big and how deep the damage goes.
- Reweave New base threads and new knots, with colours and fibres matched by hand. Long, careful work, usually kept for valuable, antique or art rugs.
- Patch Another way to close a hole. We’ll explain what it would mean for your rug before you decide.
- Secure Stitching around the damage so it doesn’t spread. Sometimes that’s all an everyday rug needs.
Which of the three suits your rug is something we settle together, once we’ve seen the damage up close.

Moth damage
Moth damage rug repair
It often starts where nobody looks.
Moth larvae can eat a wool rug down to its threads. By the time you spot it, the pile may already be gone in places.
Each patch gets a close look: how much pile is gone, and whether the threads underneath are still sound. Where they are, the lost pile can sometimes be rebuilt. Where they’ve been eaten through as well, a hand-made rug may need the same reweaving as a hole.
A repair doesn’t deal with the moths. Moth treatment helps prevent them, and it’s done last, after the repair. If you’re still seeing moths, tell us when you book.
Where it often starts

One visit
Wash first, then the repair
One pickup, one delivery.
Before any repair, the whole rug gets a full wash, even if it’s fairly new. Loose fibres come out, and moth damage nobody had noticed can show up, so we know exactly what we’re repairing.
If the wash shows more than we expected, we call you before going further. Pickup and delivery are free anywhere in Toronto and the whole GTA.

Other rug repairs
A hole is one kind of damage. We also look after worn edges and fringe, water damage, and a rug’s size and shape.
Questions
Reweaving and hole repair questions
The questions we’re asked most often, answered the way we would on the phone.
How much does rug hole repair cost in Toronto?
That depends on the rug, the size of the hole and the repair it needs, so it’s priced once we’ve seen it. To start, text photos and the rug’s dimensions to (416) 939-7571. Nothing begins until you’ve agreed to it, nothing is added afterwards, and pickup and delivery are free.
Can you reweave a machine-made rug?
Reweaving is for hand-made rugs, because it rebuilds the knots and threads they’re made from. A machine-made rug may suit a different repair. Text us a photo and we’ll tell you what makes sense.
Will I still see where the hole was?
We match colours and fibres by hand and aim for a repair that blends in. Up close, especially on an older rug, you may still be able to find it. You’ll know what to expect before any work starts.
Is it worth fixing a hole in an everyday rug?
Sometimes it isn’t, and we’ll say so. Reweaving takes a lot of slow handwork, so it mostly makes sense for a valuable rug, an antique or a piece of art. On other rugs, a simpler rug hole repair that stops it growing may be enough. We only suggest what your rug really needs.
Is moth treatment the same as moth damage repair?
No. Moth treatment is an extra for wool rugs that helps prevent future moth infestations. Moth damage rug repair is separate work on the damage itself, the bare patches and eaten pile. If your rug needs both, the treatment comes last.
Will the moths come back after the repair?
We can’t promise they won’t. Moths can return from other parts of your home. Our tips for keeping moths away can help.
