Water-damaged rug restoration in Toronto

Flood, sewage backup, burst pipe or a rug left out in the rain: whatever soaked it, we assess your water damaged rug first and say if it can be saved. Area rugs only, washed at our own facility, with free pickup and delivery.

What water does

What water can do to an area rug

It depends on the rug, the water and how long it stays wet.

A thick rug, or one left on a wet floor, can stay damp a long time, and mould on a rug needs only that damp to grow.

Not every wet rug is ruined. A lot depends on the fibre, the dyes, how the rug was made, what the water was and how long it stayed wet. These are the usual problems:

What can happen

Buckling

Cotton swells, then dries; the rug may ripple.

About 48 hours

Dry by then, and mould is less likely.

This is general information about rugs and water. What we tell you about your own rug comes after we’ve looked at it.

Right away

What to do right away at home

A few simple steps before you phone us.

If it was a sewage backup, call us first and tell us what happened. For any other water, these steps can help:

Take a few photos of the rug and note its size. Text the photos to (416) 939-7571, or call and tell us what happened. We pick up rugs that are still wet, and the sooner the better.

Stop the water

At its source, if you can.

Get it off the wet floor

Lay it flat somewhere dry, air on both sides.

Then, while it dries

Don’t hang it up to drip, and don’t leave it folded, rolled up or piled with other wet things. Colours can move from one part of the rug to another.

Our assessment

A frank answer once we’ve seen it

Whatever the water was.

Each rug is checked first. A flood damaged rug, a leak, a sewage backup or anything else: we assess it and give you a straight answer on whether it can be saved. Sometimes that answer is no, and we’ll say so.

If it can be saved, you’ll know exactly what it needs and why. We only suggest the work your rug needs, and we’ll say when something isn’t needed. If you decide not to go ahead after the inspection, your rug simply comes home, and that’s fine by us.

We take area rugs that got wet from

Rain or snow

After being left outside.

Tanks and sprinklers

Broken aquarium; a fire sprinkler going off.

Small spills

Plant pots, pet bowls, spills left too long.

Anything else

Just call and tell us what happened.

If we find something more once the rug is unrolled at our facility, we call you before going on, and the regular wash you asked for stays exactly as agreed.

What can be restored

What we can restore

Case by case, once we’ve seen the rug.

Like any other repair, rug water damage work starts with a full wash at our facility. Once the rug is clean, we can see it clearly and say what else makes sense.

Drying: your rug is dried indoors, all the way through, without high heat.

Colour that ran: re-dyeing (colour restoration) may help. We judge it case by case after seeing the rug, and can’t promise a result, but we’ll say what we expect.

More we can do

A woman holds her nose at a bad smell

Musty smells

Mildew and flood too. Enzyme first, then the wash.

Rug blocking

For a rug that ripples or won’t sit square.

Colour that has already bled isn’t covered by our stain promise. Choose enzyme odour treatment and our odour promise* applies: if the smell is still there at delivery, that treatment is on us.

Free pickup

Free pickup across Toronto and the whole GTA

Start with a call.

Pickup and delivery are free, wherever we pick up and deliver. Call first and tell us about the rug and the water, then text a few photos and the rug’s size to (416) 939-7571 so we know what we’re dealing with.

A water damaged rug is handled like any other repair: a full wash first, then any extra you choose, such as enzyme odour treatment, and repairs or re-dyeing only if the rug warrants them.

Nothing further happens to your rug until you’ve heard from us and said yes to it.

Questions

Water damage restoration questions

The questions we’re asked most often, answered the way we would on the phone.

Can a flood damaged rug be saved?

That depends on the fibre, the dyes, what the water was and how long the rug stayed wet. We look it over first and give you an honest answer. Then it’s your call, and if the answer is no, the rug simply comes home.

Do you pick up a rug that’s still wet?

Yes, we pick up wet rugs too, and the sooner the better. Call (416) 939-7571 with what happened and the rug’s size.

What about a rug from a sewage backup?

Call us first and tell us what happened. We take those rugs too, and we’ll say whether yours can be saved. Sometimes it can’t, and we say so.

The colours ran. Can you fix that?

Colour that has already bled isn’t covered by our stain promise. Re-dyeing (colour restoration) may help: we judge it case by case after seeing the rug, and we’ll say what we think it could do, with no promises.

What does restoring a water damaged rug cost?

It depends on the rug and what it needs. The wash is priced by size, extras such as enzyme odour treatment are added only if you choose them, and repairs are priced once we’ve seen the rug. Nothing starts until you’ve agreed to it, and nothing is added afterwards.

Is this for wall-to-wall carpet too?

No. Water damage restoration is for area rugs only, washed at our own facility. It isn’t for wall-to-wall carpet.
